Interactive Fountain “Water World” — a living poem about the sea, its breath, and its mysteries
At the very heart of the future park in Mariupol — a city on the shores of the gentle Azov Sea — a new symbol is born, embodied in water, light, steel, and movement. The “Water World” fountain project is more than just a fountain; it is an interactive art installation where every visitor becomes a co-creator of a luminous performance.
Philosophy and Concept
The sea is the breath of our planet, an ancient element where movement, light, and life intertwine. The fish that inhabit these waters are symbols of freedom, fluidity, and eternal motion. Born in water and dissolving into it, they remain a part of it forever. In “Water World,” this idea comes to life — the fish seem to glide across the mirror-like surface of the water, barely touching it with the tips of their fins, before vanishing once more into the depths, leaving behind only trails of light.
Interactive Magic
“Water World” is more than just an interactive fountain — it’s a conversation between art and every visitor who approaches it. Embedded in the pavement around the fountain are 10 interactive buttons. When someone steps on a button, the light inside one of the fish comes to life, as if the fish awakens before your eyes. The more people join the game, the more vibrant the fountain becomes. And when all the buttons are activated — a full evening light show begins, transforming the fountain into a radiant canvas of water, light, and mist.
This makes “Water World” a fountain that only fully reveals itself in the presence of people. It comes alive through their touch, creating a unique atmosphere of interaction, playfulness, and shared creativity.
Design and Materials
The black granite slab serves as the water’s surface, transforming into a mirror that reflects the sky, clouds, and the city itself. During the day, this mirror catches the sunlight, emphasizing the weightless elegance of the metallic fish. At night, the water becomes a dark canvas upon which a symphony of light is painted — triggered by the hands (and feet) of the park’s visitors.
24 fish — each with its own character and shape — are crafted from polished stainless steel. These are not imaginary creatures, but species familiar to every coastal resident. It’s as if they leapt out of the Azov Sea to tell their story. Inside each fish is a hidden LED lighting system, gently illuminating their forms and turning the fountain into a glowing artwork.
Light, Water, and Mist — Magic in Motion
The water flows in a soft, smooth film — no splashing, no noise — like the gentle breath of the sea at dawn. In this silence, art is born. Above this stillness rises a delicate mist, wrapping around the fish like a living veil, as if they are diving between worlds. The mist itself becomes a canvas for light, softening it, adding depth, and creating an atmosphere of wonder.
Technology with Meaning
The lighting system offers several scenarios — from gentle, calming glows to dynamic pulsating light shows with shifting colors. Every evening the show is different, because it’s not pre-set — it starts with the people who come to the park. This makes the fountain more than a static object; it becomes a symbol of connection between people, nature, and the city itself.
Emotions and Impressions
The first encounter with the fountain inspires awe — you want to touch it, you want to play with it. But even for those who visit regularly, “Water World” never becomes routine. Each night brings something new — the fountain responds to visitors, to the weather, to the mood of the moment.
Legacy
This is more than just a fountain project — it’s the creation of a cultural symbol. A hundred years from now, when someone looks at its design or sees old photos, they will understand that this was a place where nature was cherished, the sea was loved, and important things were expressed through the language of water and light.
“Water World” is a declaration of love — to the sea, to the city, to the people.
It is a reminder that nature is part of us, and that every step we take has the power to bring light into the world.
