“VALLEY WINGS” CONCEPT — ABSTRACT STYLE

The concept of “Wings of the Valley” is realized in an abstract style and is a kinetic installation measuring 26.9’ x 16.8’, consisting of 44 moving aluminum elements with a gold coating. This point of attraction for modern cities evokes the image of soaring wings above the valley landscape.

INSPIRATION

At the place where the first train arrived in 1885, giving life to North Yakima, the city now spreads its wings toward the future. “Valley Wings” channels the soul of the valley through the motion of light and wind.

WITHIN THE HEART OF YAKIMA

Born from light: Yakima emerged from a vision—a railroad that connected the desert to the world. Today, the wings of the valley carry this vision further, turning innovation into visible art, recognizable from afar. Dance of fertility: The shifting light mirrors the valley’s eternal rhythm: seed, sprout, bloom, fruit. Golden rays rise like the scent of ripening apples, fall like grape leaves, and spiral like cherry petals—a symphony of seasons in radiant motion. Breath of the valley: The same winds that sculpted this landscape over millennia now conduct a luminous orchestra. Each gust gives rise to a new melody of wings, as if the installation breathes with the earth. Beacon of the valley: By night, the artwork transforms into Yakima’s constellation—a glowing signpost for those seeking a place where tradition and innovation converge, where the earth gives rise not only to crops, but to art. “Valley Wings” doesn’t just decorate Yakima—it embodies it, expressing its spirit in the language of light, telling a story of resilience, fertility, and endless aspiration.

KINETIC ARCHITECTURE

Geometric concept: The installation is a dynamic system of 44 independent moving elements, collectively forming the impression of soaring wings. Each element shifts autonomously, creating countless patterns—from diverging rays to intricate geometric compositions. Form symbolism: The golden rays symbolize the solar energy of the Yakima Valley, transforming arid land into a fertile oasis. Their motion recalls both the grace of eagles in flight and the fluttering of petals in the wind. Interactive poetry: Reacting to natural valley winds, the sculpture turns invisible air currents into a visible choreography of motion and light—each breeze giving birth to a new form.

PHILOSOPHY

From rails to heavens: Just as the railroad once lifted Yakima from a desert to a flourishing city, the wings of the valley now elevate it into the realm of artistic expression—a journey from steam engines to dreams of light. Choreography of flight: Driven by 66 kinetic winches, the movement is smooth and wave-like—mimicking bird flight, blooming trees, and the dancing grapevines. Programmable scenarios allow the installation to move in sync with the valley’s rhythm. Day and night magic: By day, the golden surfaces play with sunlight, casting shifting shadows and reflections. At night, 10 light cannons transform the sculpture into a glowing constellation, captivating viewers.

CULTURAL HERITAGE

Beacon of the future: The installation acts as a navigational sign, guiding those who seek a space where railroad history merges with contemporary light art— a place where tradition and innovation coexist in harmony.
