Pterodactyls: The Return of Legends Through Kinetic Art
Pterodactyls is a unique kinetic installation created by DION ART to transform modern public spaces into a dynamic spectacle. This project is inspired by prehistoric flying creatures, whose movements became the foundation for the creation of a kinetic sculpture, conveying the grace of flight and the grandeur of ancient times.
Idea and Concept
This kinetic installation takes viewers on a journey back to the prehistoric world, recreating the graceful and majestic flight of pterodactyls. Their fluid movements are brought to life through kinetic mechanisms that synchronize the flapping of “wings,” creating a sensation of real presence. It is not just an interactive installation but a work of art that embodies prehistoric majesty, uniting light, movement, and architectural space.
Dynamics and Motion
The installation features seven pterodactyls, each with a wingspan ranging from 3 to 4 meters. These kinetic sculpturesmove gracefully through the air, creating 10 different dynamic forms, which continuously transform over the course of a 20-minute performance. Unique animations turn the space into an aerial theater, where lighting and kinetic effects combine to create a breathtaking spectacle.
Technical Specifications
Each element of the installation extends up to 10 meters into the space, creating the illusion of giant creatures soaring through the air. The mechanisms ensure smooth, graceful movements, closely resembling the natural wingbeats of real pterodactyls. Additionally, the installation features original sound effects, mimicking the calls of real prehistoric pterodactyls, further enhancing the immersive experience.
Impact on Space
Pterodactyls is a perfect fit for airports, exhibition halls, museums, and concert venues, transforming them into one-of-a-kind attraction points. The dynamic light sculptures seamlessly integrate into their surroundings, creating an effect of depth, movement, and continuous transformation.
Art That Comes to Life
DION ART does more than just design kinetic installations—it reshapes the way we perceive architectural spaces. Pterodactyls is a project that merges history and technology, bringing kinetic art to life in a way that inspires, amazes, and evokes powerful emotions.
